2021
A sculpture/interactive work I created during Summer 2021. I was awarded the Altoona Summer Undergraduate Research grant which allowed me to research post-traumatic stress disorder, memory, and grieving. I used the research to inform this piece which speaks to my experience of losing my mother suddenly and traumatically. The book structure and title HOW TO FEEL LIKE YOU USED TO mimics the self-help genre of literature people often turn to during grieving/hardship. The text is included on every left page, as to represent the left side of the brain which holds the facts and vocabulary of memories; whereas the right pages hold the textural and sensory elements, mirroring the right brain which holds the feelings and emotional responses of an experience.
